LAS VEGAS, NV — During a campaign event in which he played on a live Twitch stream with Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, vice presidential candidate Tim Walz was heard asking which button to press in Madden to make players slap each other’s butts.
During the hour-plus-long Twitch stream, the Minnesota governor and New York representative were unable to score any points, though Walz seemed preoccupied with learning which button he could press on the Xbox controller to make his Vikings players enthusiastically slap each other on the buttocks.
“How do I make Sam Darnold slap Justin Jefferson on the tuchus?” Walz was heard asking Ocasio-Cortez during the opening minutes of their friendly game. “I know there’s got to be a button for it here somewhere. These things have so many buttons on them, one of them has to be the ‘slap the hiney button,’ right? It’s football!”
Though the congresswoman attempted to steer the conversation toward policy issues multiple times, viewers reported that Walz was persistent in his quest to make the video game football players trade celebratory butt-slaps. “He was laser-focused,” one Twitch stream witness said. “He just wouldn’t let her change the subject much before he wanted to go back to the slapping. He didn’t really seem to know much about football or political topics, but I’ll definitely admit he was really into the butt slapping. I kinda think that’s what he thinks football is.”
At publishing time, Walz reportedly made it part of the Democratic ticket’s platform to mandate EA Sports to add an easy-to-find butt-slapping button to Madden 26.
