Tom Brady is thrilled that Bill Belichick will put his stamp on the Tar Heels.
Brady congratulated Belichick on Wednesday after the former Patriots coach agreed to a five-year deal to become the next North Carolina head coach.
“Congrats coach,” Brady, 47, wrote on his Instagram Story, including a post by UNC Football welcoming Belichick to Chapel Hill. “The Tar Heel way is about to become a thing.”
The Patriot Way defined the Brady-Belichick era in New England.
The coach-quarterback duo made nine Super Bowl appearances and won a league-record six titles during their 20 seasons together.
Belichick’s girlfriend, 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, shared her excitement about the move in a post on her Instagram Story on Wednesday night.
“We are onto Chapel Hill!!!” the former cheerleader wrote, including the same message posted by UNC Football.
It was a nod to Belichick’s iconic “We’re on to Cincinnati” phrase from a press conference a decade ago.
The deal was pending approval by the board of trustees, which was scheduled to hold an emergency meeting Thursday.
It came two days after Belichick, 72, confirmed talks with UNC.
Belichick — who took his talents to the sports media circuit after parting ways with the Patriots in January following 24 seasons — has no prior experience at the college level.
Belichick does have a history with UNC, as his father, Steve Belichick, was an assistant coach at Chapel Hill.
“I am excited for the opportunity at UNC-Chapel Hill. I grew up around college football with my Dad and treasured those times,” Belichick said. “I have always wanted to coach in college and now I look forward to building the football program in Chapel Hill.”
Belichick, who will turn 73 in April, will be the oldest active head coach in FBS.
