Tony Romo had open bottle of alcohol in car during OWI arrest: cops

More details about ex-Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo’s OWI arrest are coming to light, including a new allegation that an open container of booze was found in his car after he was stopped by cops.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office released to the California Post copies of three citations its officers hit Romo with in the immediate aftermath of his July 23 arrest in Wisconsin, and one of them claimed the CBS NFL analyst had an “open bottle of an alcoholic beverage” located on the passenger side of his black Jeep.

A deputy discovered the item when they were taking inventory of Romo’s car as it was being towed, according to the citation.

The document stated Romo is facing a $267 fine for the alleged “possess open intoxicants in MV-driver” offense.

The second citation Romo was tagged with was for “unsafe passing on right.” Police wrote in the document that he drove “in the marked right distress lane to pass vehicles in lanes 1 and 2 during rush hour traffic” before he “cut across the marked gore” to get to where he wanted to go.

Romo “was in question on what a gore was when I explained the reason for the stop,” his arresting officer wrote in the citation.

Romo is facing a fine of $235 for the alleged offense, the document stated.

The last citation Romo was given was for “operating while under the influence,” an offense that, according to a copy of the citation, carries a $1,066 fine.

Court records show Romo was additionally later cited for “refuse to take test for intoxication after arrest.”

Romo, according to body cam footage released to The Post on Tuesday, told cops that he had been coming from a golf course and was on his way “to visit grandma and grandpa” before he was pulled over.

During his detainment, an officer told him they suspected him of being impaired because he had “red glassy eyes” and an “odor of an intoxicating alcoholic beverage” emanating from his person.

Romo was put through multiple field sobriety tests at a police station, and he appeared to perform poorly on all of them. He also refused to take a breath test, telling one of the officers, “I’ve heard from all the lawyers don’t ever do that. So, we’re not going to do that.”

Romo, who’s still yet to publicly comment on the incident, has been given a court date of Sept. 21.
