Tragic update after pregnant Arizona mom was lured to death by boyfriend using DoorDash tactic

The newborn baby who held on to her life for a week after her 17-year-old mother was brutally killed outside her AirBnB rental in San Diego has died.

Jariah Edwards was allegedly shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend Trevon Williams, 19, while she was on a family vacation on May 30.

Prosecutors say Williams took a Lyft for eight hours from Arizona to San Diego, learned where his ex was staying with her family and placed DoorDash delivery orders to lure her out.

The teenager was around 32 weeks pregnant at the time, according to police.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors performed an emergency cesarean section in an effort to save the baby, investigators said. Tragically, Edwards died.

The newborn girl was in critical condition for about a week under the care of doctors at Rady Children’s Hospital but sadly died on Sunday, police said.

“The San Diego Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to the neonatal intensive care unit staff at Rady Children’s Hospital for the care they provided and their extraordinary efforts to save her life,” the agency said in a statement.

Police said the baby had suffered a severe hypoxic brain injury. Prosecutors say she had minimal brain activity after suffering oxygen loss.

In an online fundraiser created for Edwards’ family, loved ones said Edwards’ mother and sister did everything they could to care for the newborn.

“Jariah’s family is facing unimaginable grief and hardship,” the fundraiser states, adding that the money raised would go to medical bills.

As of Monday, the fundraiser had garnered $11,865 in donations toward a goal of $20,000.

In emotional tributes shared on Instagram, Edwards’ loved ones spoke of her praises.

“Everywhere she went she was always spreading her light,” wrote one mourner of the dead teen.

“Life will never be the same without you,” wrote another.

Police became aware of the deadly shooting after the San Diego Police Department Dispatch received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a shooting in the 4900 block of Gardena Avenue in Bay Park around 1:10 a.m. early May 30.

Officers arrived at rental home on Gardena Avenue within minutes and located Ewards suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Williams had fled into nearby Tecolote Canyon, according to police. Investigators found him around 3 a.m. after a search of the area.

The accused killer had a semi-automatic handgun but was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Williams was formally charged with Edwards’ murder last Wednesday, along with attempted murder of a fetus, and possession of a machine gun with an extended magazine. He pleaded not guilty.

Williams appeared in court covered in tattoos and with braided hair as he made his plea. He is being held in San Diego County Jail.

The motive for the killing remains unclear but police say it was an incident of domestic violence.

Prosecutors say Williams and Edwards started dating in September 2025, but her family was worried.

The two had an on-and-off relationship filled with domestic violence and threats of violence on the victim, prosecutors charge.

Edwards had blocked Williams on her phone and was seeking a restraining order against him at the time that she was killed, according to prosecutors.

Williams could now face an additional murder charge as a result of the baby being removed from life support.

If convicted of the charges he’s currently facing, he could be sentenced the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
