A train derailed and blocked the tracks south of New York City’s Penn Station, causing massive delays in and out of the Big Apple Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
Amtrak and NJ Transit riders traveling between New York and New Jersey were hit with delays and cancelations going in both directions, the city’s emergency notification system tweeted at 3 p.m.
Riders in the affected area should expect delays at least 30 minutes to an hour, Amtrak’s website said.
Emergency crews were working to clear the tracks at Penn Station Wednesday afternoon.
Officials advised commuters to take alternate routes.
