Troy Aikman said he was thriving in the public eye while he was secretly dealing with the demise of his second marriage with Catherine “Capa” Mooty.
The veteran NFL broadcaster, who rarely discusses his private life, recalled hitting rock bottom when he realized their union was crumbling.
“A failure. That was my rock bottom,” the Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, 57, said of his second marriage in a recent interview with The Athletic.
Aikman admitted he is embarrassed to talk about it years later.
Aikman and Capa married in a small ceremony in California in September 2017, just three months after he proposed during a trip to Lake Como, Italy.
They reportedly dated for a year before that.
“For me, contentment was always a four-letter word. I never wanted to be content,” Aikman said. “I didn’t wanna be around anyone who was content. That’s just not a place I could land.”
Aikman was “one day looking up and realized his second marriage was crumbling,” the outlet wrote.
“The success everyone saw masked the inner turmoil no one knew about. Aikman’s wrestled with it for decades, warring against his own happiness, chasing a finish line he isn’t even sure exists.”
Later in the interview, The Athletic described contentment as being the thing that robbed him of his own happiness, which ultimately led to both his marriages falling apart.
Aikman has two twenty-something daughters, Alexa Marie and Jordan Ashley, from his first marriage to former Cowboys publicist Rhonda Worthey.
They announced their split in January 2011 after a decade of marriage.
Aikman did not announce his split with Capa, who still uses his last name on her Instagram, at the time.
Aikman was divorced around 2020 sources close told The Post.
Aikman went public with his rumored girlfriend, Haley Clark — a Dallas native who works in sales for a men’s custom clothing company — in June 2023, when she posted photos of them in Italy together.
The next month, People reported that Aikman and Capa were officially divorced.
It’s unclear if Aikman and Clark are still dating.
Capa, who is the co-owner of Luxeliner, a mobile shopping service, has two sons from her marriage to real estate lawyer Jerry Mooty.
