President Trump has reaffirmed his “complete and total endorsement” of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ahead of Hungary’s upcoming election.
Trump delivered the endorsement in a video address to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) held in Hungary.
“The prime minister has been a strong leader whose shown the entire world what’s possible when you defend your borders, your culture, your heritage, your sovereignty and your values,” Trump said.

He also praised Hungary’s approach to immigration, stating that the country has “strong borders” and will continue to “work very hard on immigration.”
Trump added that Europe has to “work very hard” to address “a lot of problems” related to immigration.
He further said that Hungary and the United States are “showing the way toward a revitalized West,” and would also work “hard together on energy.”
Orbán, Hungary’s longest-serving leader, is facing an election next month. He has frequently clashed with European Union officials and has been a central figure in disputes within the bloc.
Just this week, Orbán blocked a €90 billion loan package for Ukraine amid a dispute over oil policy, escalating tensions with other European leaders.
In a post on Truth Social last month, Trump described Orban as “a truly strong and powerful Leader, with a proven track record of delivering phenomenal results.”
He wrote at the time:
He fights tirelessly for, and loves, his Great Country and People, just like I do for the United States of America. Viktor works hard to Protect Hungary, Grow the Economy, Create Jobs, Promote Trade, Stop Illegal Immigration, and Ensure LAW AND ORDER!
Relations between Hungary and the United States have reached new heights of cooperation and spectacular achievement under my Administration, thanks largely to Prime Minister Orbán.
I look forward to continuing working closely with him so that both of our Countries can further advance this tremendous path to SUCCESS and cooperation.

Meanwhile, Vice President J.D. Vance is expected to travel to Budapest in April to show support for Orbán ahead of the election.
The visit is expected to take place shortly before Hungarians head to the polls.
