An F-35 fighter jet crashed in Nevada on late Tuesday afternoon.
The pilot of the F-35 safely ejected before the aircraft crashed within controlled airspace near Nellis Air Force Base.
In a press release, a spokesperson for Nellis Air Force Base wrote, “Emergency responders are on-scene, and there is no impact to populated areas.”
“The safety of our personnel and the community remain our top priority,” added the spokesperson.

A pilot is safe after ejecting from an F-35 that ultimately crashed north of Las Vegas on Tuesday, according to a military spokesperson.
The incident happened about 25 miles northeast of Indian Springs, within controlled airspace and the restricted federal property of the Nevada Test & Training Range, Nellis Air Force Base’s media operations told News 3 in an email.
Emergency responders are on scene and treating the pilot for minor injuries.
“The safety of our personnel and the community remain our top priority,” Nellis AFB’s media operations wrote.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, but Yahoo News reported the crash occurred after the pilot faced maneuvering issues.
Nellis Air Force Base is home to the 57th Wing, which is the U.S. Air Force’s premier unit for advanced combat training and tactics development.
Area 51, one of the United States’ government’s most secretive military sites, also operates under the jurisdiction of Nellis Air Force Base.
Mysteries have long surrounded Area 51 due to the military testing of advanced aircraft at the location, which in turn has sparked UFO rumors.
