A University of Florida freshman was killed Saturday night while crossing a street near her college campus – despite desperate efforts to save her by a nurse who was passing by.
Hazel Krauss, 19, was hit by a car at around 11:30 p.m. while she was crossing West University Avenue in Gainesville when the driver swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle, cops said.
Registered nurse Porchia Hardy saw Krauss and rushed to help, but the freshman student was later pronounced dead in hospital.

“I’m a mom, and a nurse, so my mom and nurse instinct kicked in, and I mean she was in good care,” Hardy told WCJB.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
