Scottie Scheffler, Aldrich Potgieter, Stephan Jaeger, Min Woo Lee, Ryo Hisatsune, Martin Kaymer and Alex Smalley share the lead after shooting a 3-under 67 on Thursday.
Scheffler remains the favorite to win the tournament, carrying a price of +170 at FanDuel. The defending PGA champion opened at +390.
The world No. 1 golfer made late strides up the leaderboard with birdies on four of his final six holes. This marks the first time in the four-time major winner’s career that he’s held (or shared) a lead after the first round of a major tournament.
Xander Schauffele owns the next best price to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday at 10/1. Schauffele finished one shot off the lead and is tied with six other players at T8.

Justin Thomas was also in on the 3-under party until bogeys on the 14th and 16th holes knocked him to a 1-under 69 and a T15 position.
Corey Conners also fell out of the shared lead with a bogey on 15.

The PGA of America’s conditions in Southwest Philadelphia proved to be extremely unforgiving with slick greens and sticky rough hampering players on top of windy, bitter weather conditions.
Rory McIlroy, who won the Masters for the second straight year last month, was one of the day’s notable victims to Aronimink, carding a 4-over 74, which placed him T105 and below the cut line. McIlroy missed 9 of his 14 fairway shots, including 6 of 7 on the back nine. He ended his round with four consecutive bogeys, the first time he has ever done so in a major championship.
When asked to describe his performance, he replied with, “S—.”
The career grand slam winner opened with the second-shortest odds behind Scheffler at +950.

Cameron Young, who has strung together five consecutive top-five finishes, sits T49 upon carding a 1-over 71. Young opened at 12/1 to win outright, but has stumbled to 32/1.
