A person was found dead inside a Los Angeles apartment building after an explosion that investigators suspect was sparked by fireworks or “homemade explosives,” police said.
The blast ripped through the complex in suburban Bell Gardens Tuesday night, leaving a child and an adult injured and displacing multiple families.

“A third victim was found deceased inside the apartment where the explosion and fire occurred,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced Wednesday.
A child and an adult were taken to local hospitals Tuesday evening. The child was listed in stable condition and the adult in critical condition, police said.
An initial investigation of the scene revealed “materials consistent with homemade explosives and fireworks,” police said.
