One Giants star leaving means another’s chances of staying improved.
After spending three years building the pass rush into the identity of the team, the Giants are not looking to tear it down in an instant, so Dexter Lawrence’s trade to the Bengals only made Kayvon Thibodeaux more unlikely to be dealt, NFL Network reported.
The possibility hasn’t been ruled out, however. Head coach John Harbaugh declared only a couple weeks ago that “everyone is tradeable.”
The Giants have fielded calls on Thibodeaux back to last season and remained reluctant to trade him even with Abdul Carter and Brian Burns looking like the starting edge duo. Thibodeaux counts for $14.75 million on the 2026 salary cap and is entering his walk year on a fifth-year option.
The Giants are thought to have the asking price of at least a third-round pick for Thibodeaux and there is no evidence that any team has been willing to meet that price.
Thibodeaux missed the final seven games of last season with a shoulder injury and has only eight sacks in his last 22 games after a breakout 11.5-sack 2023 season. But the former No. 5 overall pick has improved as an edge-setting run defender throughout his four-year career.
