Why the greatest threat to the Giants’ hopes of turning things around isn’t on the field

The danger arises when players become desensitized.

It is real and it happens — far too often around the Giants for the past dozen years or so.

The frustration, anger and exasperation was oozing out of Dexter Lawrence late Monday night. Needing to towel off his shaved head even after a shower was the norm for him — big guys perspire quite a bit after so much physical exertion — but the way he came to grips with the most recent loss was both repetitive and alarming.

There has been so much failure that the explanations and reactions can be recited by rote. All of those losses eventually erode the fire and angst that comes from losing, and, in time, is replaced by a dull acknowledgement that nothing is going to dramatically change, that there is nothing anyone can do to turn the fortunes around.
