Wild LI biker brawl between Pagan’s, Hell’s Angels leads to sweeping felony case

A wild bloody biker brawl between the notorious Pagan’s and Hell’s Angels gangs on suburban Long Island has exploded into a sweeping felony case.

Five members of the Pagan’s Motorcycle Club and the Demons of Hell MC, a subset of the Hell’s Angels, were recently indicted on gang-assault and other violent charges for their roles in the vicious fight in September in West Islip and Lindenhurst, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced.

The melee ended with four people stabbed, others beaten with hammers and baseball bats and several sent to the hospital needing emergency surgery.

“This was a brazen and dangerous outbreak of violence that put our community at risk,” said Suffolk DA Ray Tierney in a statement.

“What began as a confrontation between rival motorcycle gangs quickly escalated into a chaotic melee in the middle of Sunrise Highway involving weapons and resulted in numerous serious injuries.”

Christopher Clarke, 21, and Roger Clarke, 53 — both alleged members of the Demons of Hell under the Hell’s Angels — stabbed and then beat a rival Pagan’s member with a hammer — leaving the victim so badly injured that he required emergency surgery, prosecutors said.

Roger stabbed a second Pagan’s member as he tried to flee, puncturing his liver and colon, also sending him into emergency surgery, authorities alleged.

On the other side of the clash, Joseph Bivona, 46, Michael Baffa, 57, and Robert Miller, 54 — all alleged Long Island members of the Pagan’s Motorcycle Club — acted together to beat a 76-year-old rival with baseball bats and other weapons, causing his brain to bleed and leaving him needing multiple emergency surgeries, authorities said.

The bloody clash started inside 1683 Sports Bar & Grille in West Islip before the bloodbath moved 5 miles to Phillips 66 gas station in Lindenhurst, officials said.

The chaos first exploded in the late afternoon of Sept. 14 when alleged members of the Demons of Hell crashed a memorial service for a Pagan’s member at the West Islip bar.

The bad blood turned violent and then spilled into the streets soon after, when at least 15 bikers regrouped at the Route 66 gas station off Sunrise Highway, where the confrontation detonated into a full-blown melee, prosecutors said.

The fight was originally labeled as a civil disturbance by police, and seven people were only charged with rioting at the time.

But after more than five months of investigating, police said they have now put together the fuller picture of what happened.

All five suspects were arraigned Tuesday and are being held on bails ranging from $250,000 to $750,000.

The DA said he will continue to crack down on gangs.

“Violence of this nature will not be tolerated,” Tierney said.
