Jazz Chisholm Jr. took a milestone swing Sunday night with a heavy heart.

The Yankees second baseman drilled his 100th career home run to start the scoring in a 7-2 win over the Red Sox, then appeared to be emotional after he returned to the dugout, which he indicated after the game was due to the death of a close friend.

“It felt kind of surreal,” Chisholm said. “I lost my best friend [Saturday], so today felt like a different type of day. Especially with the 100th home run coming today and everything.”

Chisholm declined to go into detail, but said, “Right now, I’ve been going through a lot in the last 30 hours.”

Before the night was over, Chisholm added his 101st career home run, another two-run shot that gave the Yankees some breathing room in the eighth inning.

Chisholm finished Sunday with 24 homers on the season, matching his career-high from last season.

“It makes it feel even better that we won the game, especially against a team that’s really been beating us a lot this year,” Chisholm said. “That should take us into a good momentum right now.”
