A young man took a tragic plunge from a scenic California cliff overlooking a nude beach in Santa Cruz County early Saturday morning.
The victim, described as being in his early 20s, fell from the cliff near Bonny Doon Beach and landed halfway down, according to Cal Fire.
Firefighters used a rope system to recover the man’s body. It’s unclear how the man fell or what he was doing at the time.
Photos showed the massive response from authorities, including support for the Cal Fire’s San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit, the Santa Cruz Fire Department, California State Parks, the Santa Cruz Police Department, and the Southwest Division of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Bonny Doon Beach is situated near the Pacific Coast Highway and divided into a clothing-optional and family-friendly sections.
The nude section is located in a secluded area hidden behind a “rocky notch between the cliff face and a large boulder near the waterline,” according to Hill Tromper.
The beach is close to Bonny Doon, which is known for its lavender farms and wineries.
