WASHINGTON, DC — An ailing Senator Mitch McConnell was carried into the chambers of Congress yesterday using the aid of six pallbearers.
McConnell’s aids said the use of the pallbearers will help the senator better perform his duties while moving around Congress.
“We think the use of these mobility pallbearers is the perfect thing to help the Senator get around the capitol,” McConnell staffer Bradley Meyers told the press. “He’s been having a little bit of a tough time moving around and we’re so excited to have found a solution that’s both practical and sensible. Here he comes now!”
The six pallbearers could be seen hoisting McConnell up and around the halls of Congress. Fellow lawmakers say the arrangement is a bit distracting but they understand that sometimes accommodations need to be made.
“Yesterday we were trying to have a vote in the senate and the pallbearers got stuck in the doorway trying to bring Mitch in. The doors of the senate chamber aren’t big enough for them to fit in all at once and it does create a bit of a distraction,” Senator Mike Lee said.
At publishing time, McConnell had showed encouraging signs of recovery after being seen getting around all by himself on a Jazzy scooter.
