ANAHEIM, CA — To commemorate the team’s record-setting 100-loss season, the Los Angeles Angels changed the “Big A” outside their stadium to a “Big L.”
The iconic 230-foot A-frame sign in the east parking lot was removed on Monday to make way for a large L-frame complete with halo to celebrate the club’s first 100-loss season in its history.
Arte Moreno, who is set to sell the Angels to Stan Kroenke next season, said, “I’m just glad I could be here for this historic string of losses. I feel like I really left my mark on the team.”
Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken said swapping out the historic “Big A” for a “Big L” was appropriate to mark such a grand occasion. “It might seem confusing to some fans why the ‘Big A’ is now a ‘Big L,’ but no more confusing than calling the team the Los Angeles Angels despite the team being in Anaheim.”
According to sources, players weren’t as happy about the change, calling it salt in the wound after such a heartbreaking season. But Manager Kurt Suzuki said the ‘Big L’ would stay up at least until the team gets its first win next season.
Fans, however, were thrilled. “It’s easier being a fan of a terrible team. The tickets are so cheap!” said local baseball fan Gene Welton. “And if the front office plays their cards right this offseason, they can lose even more games next season.”
At publishing time, the city of Anaheim was reportedly preparing to penalize criminals by sentencing them to receive 2027 Angels season tickets.
