NEW YORK — Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani caused a stir this week when he rage quit from a game of Sim City 4 after the residents of his simulated city starved to death again.
According to sources, Mamdani’s virtual city, Commieberg, descended into chaos after he implemented a 100% tax rate to pay for city-owned grocery stores, an increased minimum wage, and universal free childcare.
“THIS GAME IS STUPID!” Mamdani wrote in a post on the video game website GameFAQs. “I created a socialist utopia, and everyone turned on each other and started eating their dogs to survive. THIS GAME IS RACIST!”
“Huh, interesting,” said Will Wright, the original designer of the Sim City franchise. “We didn’t even program government grocery stores into the game. He clearly broke it.”
Mamdani defended the socialist policies he brought to Commieberg, saying they would “for sure” work in the real New York. “Games are built on programming logic,” Mamdani said. “My socialist plan should work. It works every time it’s tried!”
At publishing time, Mamdani tried his hand at playing The Sims, but was forced to quit after all the characters died of AIDS.
