An MS-13 gangbanger who was on the lam after allegedly killing his roommate was caught by ICE agents who were sweeping the area as part of deportation raids in the notorious migrant town of Colony Ridge, Texas.
Cops say Luis Miguel Perez, 34, murdered his roommate Monday on a nearby rural road, ran into the woods and then knocked on a neighbor’s door and asked for a drink and a ride out of town, according to ABC13.
The neighbor then called 911, alerting cops who had already been searching the area for hours.
Coincidentally, ICE agents also just so happened to be in the area tracking down illegal migrants as part of President Trump’s mass deportation effort.
They swooped in and located Perez and took him into custody.
ICE determined that the alleged killer had already entered the US at least seven times been deported six times — including in March 2023, the agency said in a statement Wednesday.
Perez also had a previous convictions for drug trafficking, drug possession and for illegal entry into the US, ICE said.
Perez is now charged with murder and is being held on a $5 million bond in the Liberty County jail.
Homeland Security Investigations Houston Special Agent in Charge Chad Plantz said that residents of the area now “can rest easier knowing this dangerous transnational gang member has been removed from the community and is safely in custody.”
“Thanks to the close relationships we have with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners, we were able to quickly apprehend him within a matter of hours before he could endanger anyone else in the area,” said Plantz.
During Monday’s raid, ICE nabbed a total of 118 illegal migrants, including accused killers and kiddie-sex offenders.
The feds targeted Colony Ridge, which has long been considered a crime-ridden “colonia,” at multiple worksites and on the roads during traffic stops, according to Fox News.
The companies behind the development— a 40-square-mile sprawl of homes, trailers and tents housing 75,000 people in an area at least 50 percent bigger than Manhattan — have been hit with both federal and state lawsuits alleging used misleading advertisements and predatory lending practices to lure Latino buyers.
John Harris, who along with his brother William “Trey” Harris owns the companies behind Colony Ridge, told Fox News he’s “grateful’ for the efforts by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and President Trump’s border czar Tom Homan in “rooting out criminal illegals in Texas.”
“In fact, [Texas Department of Public Safety] officers have been working throughout Colony Ridge for more than two years. They know who the bad guys are, so we are fully supportive of these efforts,” he said.
“We also know that Colony Ridge remains one of the safest communities of its size anywhere in Texas, and we are proud of our residents and their desire to make this community a vibrant, happy, and safe place to live.”
