A Massachusetts college professor disappeared last week on an island off the coast of Maine, leaving officials perplexed during the search.
Bentley University English and media literacy educator, Wiley Davi, was last seen on Peaks Island on Nov. 15.
Davi, 57, a resident of the Casco Bay island three miles east of downtown Portland, was last seen there on Nov. 15, officials said.
A multi-agency search for Davi led officials onto trails and wooded areas on the island earlier in the week.
A team with the Maine Marine Patrol also searched the waters surrounding Peaks Island, according to WMTW.
No evidence of foul play has been discovered, the Portland Police Department said Thursday.
Davi was described as standing about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 155 pounds with gray hair.
Officials did not reveal the type of clothing Davi was last wearing.
Police asked residents to remain vigilant, checking their property for anything suspicious.
The staffer has worked at the university since 2003, serving as an assistant professor until 2009 before being promoted to associate professor and chair of the English & Media Studies Department, according to the school’s website.
Davi was named a full-time professor in the department in July 2020 at the Waltham, Mass. campus, 120 miles south of Peak’s Island outside of Boston.
“Wiley is a longtime and respected professor and a friend to students, faculty and staff on our campus,” a Bentley University spokesperson said in a statement obtained by the outlet. “Our hearts and minds are with Wiley, their loved ones and the first responders who are leading the search, and we are hoping and praying for Wiley’s safe return.”
Before Bentley, Davi earned a PhD in Medieval and Renaissance Studies from Tufts University and was a lecturer at Simmons College in Boston during that time.
