Brazen bank robber fakes limp to carry out broad-daylight heist in Louisiana

A daring thief with a cane and neck brace faked a limp while robbing a Louisiana bank last Friday before ditching the act and sprinting away from the scene with an “undisclosed amount of cash,” police said.

Officers in Slidell, a sleepy city just outside of New Orleans, were floored when they were parsing through security footage at a Fidelity Bank location robbed shortly before closing time on Nov. 7.

The video showed a lanky man covered from head to toe dramatically limping into the business. He was leaning on a cane that was too short for him and made a point not to bend one of his legs, according to the clip.

The man wore a gray jumpsuit, a large black rimmed hat, sunglasses, a medical face mask, and a clear fanny pack according to the video. He included a neck brace in the bizarre ensemble.

The alleged thief staggered to the teller and passed her a note while announcing “that it was a robbery,” the Slidell Police Department wrote in a news release on Facebook.

The teller placed an “undisclosed amount of cash” on the counter, which the suspect easily swept into his fanny pack. With his jackpot secured, the man pivoted and sauntered out the door — his injured act entirely abandoned.

Surveillance footage outside of the bank showed the suspect sprinting down the street and into a nearby neighborhood.

The Slidell Police Department wrote that it tried to track down the suspect using a K-9 unit, but “believe[s] he may have escaped the area in a vehicle.”

The Post reached out to the department for more information.

Many laymen who watched the surveillance footage were floored by how easily the suspect was able to make off with the sizable wads of cash.

“Funny but not funny! This guy could definitely win an academy award!!!” one user wrote on the department’s Facebook post.

“They need to start stashing some motion pictures money close by for instances like this,” another suggested.

“Walks in with a handicapped tag, runs across the parking lot like on a cross country team,” a third commenter added.
