The best friend of the disgraced Louisiana mayor accused of raping a 16-year-old boy told her own son to “lie till you die” about what he saw at the drunken pool party where the alleged assault took place, she testified.
Jill Weaver, the lifelong best friend and former sister-in-law of ex-DeRidder Mayor Misty Roberts, told jurors that when she first went to the boozy pool party around 8 p.m. July 20, 2024, Roberts was the most drunk she’d ever seen her, according to a report by KPLC.
“He was saying [Roberts] effed his best friend,” Weaver recalled of the fight between the mom and her son, according to a report by the Lake Charles American Press.
Weaver left the party around 11 p.m. and was summoned back by her own son around 2 a.m. after Roberts accused Weaver’s son of taking a video of her allegedly sexually assaulting a drunk teen at the party.
“Oh great, you called your mom,” Weaver recounted Roberts saying upon her second arrival at the bacchanal, KPLC reported.
Then the teenagers showed their phones to the two adults to prove they didn’t have videos of the incident, Weaver testified at the Beauregard Parish trial.
Weaver would eventually text her own son to “lie till you die” about that night and admitted she and Roberts spoke about how to keep the kids from reporting what they’d seen to authorities.
Roberts appeared to lament the difficultly of keeping things under wraps in the town of just 9,800 people, when she texted Weaver and another person: “I hate this small town…”
Weaver recalled how the night descended into Roberts threatening to commit suicide.
“That whole night was a lot, it was chaos … it quickly went from that situation into her wanting to kill herself.”
Weaver also testified when she spoke to Roberts the next day, Roberts claimed she couldn’t remember what happened.
One of the teens at the party that night testified later Saturday that Roberts’ alleged victim was tipsy and had thrown up.
Despite this, Roberts was flirting and dancing with the boy, the teenage witness said.
Jurors heard allegedly damning evidence from Roberts’ son, daughter and nephew, who were all at the party and said they saw their mom’s alleged victim shirtless with her inside a room where they appeared to be fooling around. None of the family members saw either of their “private parts,” they testified.
The jury saw an interview of the son telling investigators he saw his mom hooking up with the boy through a crack in the window.
The daughter testified she saw her mom and the teen “on top of each other.”

And Roberts’ nephew tried to take a video of what was happening in the room, though he didn’t know if he pressed “record.” He said if he did, he never sent the video to anyone.
After that night, the alleged victim’s mom texted Roberts about the possibility of her becoming pregnant and Roberts assured the mother she was on birth control, text messages showed.
Roberts’ own friends told her to take the morning after pill.
A DoorDash driver also testified, telling jurors he dropped off Plan B to Roberts’ home. He said he recognized the house from when his kids went trick-or-treating there on Halloween.
Roberts resigned from her mayoral post just days after cops launched a probe into that night. Roberts is charged with third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
