A driver in a stolen van struck a 56-year-old man in the Bronx Wednesday — and then tried to set the vehicle on fire before bolting on foot, cops said.
Alhadji Fofana was trying to cross Westchester Avenue near East 163rd Street in Longwood around 6:30 a.m. when the motorist in a 2008 Ford van rammed into him, police said.
Fofana, who was crossing in the crosswalk, was left unresponsive in the roadway, authorities said.
The gravely wounded man, who lived about a mile away in Crotona Park East, was rushed to Lincoln Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation determined that the driver of the Ford — which also had stolen plates — tried to set the vehicle on fire and abandoned it before fleeing on foot.
The driver had not been caught by Thursday afternoon.
No description was immediately available.
