Federal prosecutors have opened a new probe into New York State Attorney General Letitia James that’s connected to her longtime hairdresser, according to reports.
Investigators are looking into past financial transactions between the Democratic official and Iyesata Marsh, The New York Times and CBS News reported Thursday, citing sources.
Marsh was federally indicted in December in Louisiana on charges of bank fraud and aggravated identity theft over the purchase of a Land Rover three years ago, the Times reported.

The new investigation, which is reportedly in the early stages, comes after the Department of Justice struggled to make an indictment stick against James on alleged mortgage fraud in Virginia.

A lawyer for James, Abbe Lowell, told the Times the new probe reflects frustration with “the string of failures in carrying out President Trump’s political vendetta.”
“Like their earlier attempts, this attack on Ms. James is doomed to fail,” he said. “The desperation of those working for Trump is palpable and makes indelible the stain already put on this Justice Department.”
