Two people were killed and burned “beyond recognition” when the driver of an electric car jumped a sidewalk and slammed into an apartment building in White Plains on Monday, cops said.
The driver of a vehicle — believed to be a Tesla — lost control and veered onto a sidewalk before hitting a tree and crashing into a building on Battle Avenue at about 9:10 a.m., said David Chong, White Plains’ commissioner of public safety.
The car basically “exploded” and caused significant fire damage to the building, Chong said.
Responding police and fire personnel extricated the torched car from the building, police said.
The two people inside the car were found dead and “burned beyond recognition,” cops said
Two more residents in the building were treated and released by EMS for unspecified injuries.
A bystander who was walking by the scene was hurt by shrapnel from the crash and has been taken to a nearby hospital, according to police.
Police had not identified anyone involved in the accident by Monday afternoon.
