She’s going to bat for the Bronx Bombers.
Gov. Kathy Hochul has a bet with California Gov. Gavin Newsom that the Yankees will beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series — with the loser forced to showcase the other team’s swag in their workplace, she said Friday.
“If we win, Gavin Newsroom would have to display signed merchandise from our players in his office and visa versa, which I don’t have to contemplate because that won’t happen,” Hochul told reporters as she left an unrelated event Friday.
New York’s chief executive first wanted to come out swinging for the Yanks with a wager centered on the state’s iconic grub, she said.
Houchul’s so confident the Yanks will win, she was prepared to send Newsom a package of bagels and lox if the Yankees lost, she said.
“Of course, you go around the state of New York. You have chicken wings, all these different foods, but I came to the conclusion that lox, cream cheese and bagels are really, truly iconic in New York foods, right,” she said.
“So I was going to wager that, but they upped the game a little bit differently than I would have,” Hochul said.
Despite the curveball, she said the offer’s still on the table — sort of.
“If anybody in California still wants any New York lox and bagels and cream cheese once we win the World Series, which we will do, then I’m happy to have that conversation,” Hochul said with a laugh.
Houchul had just made an announcement about grant opportunities for volunteer fire companies in Greene County, when she revealed the bets.
