Disgraced “Grey’s Anatomy” writer Elisabeth Finch finally issued a full apology for lying about having cancer on the same day a new three-part series debuted that dives into the insane lengths she went to in support of her hoax.
“I’ve given no one any reason to believe a word I say. I lied about so much; things so many people have been devastated by in real life,” Finch wrote in her lengthy statement to Variety. “‘I’m sorry’ feels like the smallest words compared to what I’ve done, yet they are the truest.”
“I trapped myself in the addiction of lies, betraying and traumatizing my closest family, friends, and colleagues,” she added. “I’m making amends and expressing my genuine remorse as best I can when people are ready. And I’ve accepted the fact that some may never be.”

“I’ve been receiving mental health treatment for nearly three years, and I work hard every day to sustain a life where the truth matters more than anything…The truth is, there is no excuse, no justification—nothing will ever make my lies to anyone okay,” Finch continued. “Nothing erases the trauma I caused-the fear, the pain, the anger, the tears, the time. And nothing matters more to me than holding myself accountable in every way. I will continue to repair whatever damage I can and ensure I am not the worst things I’ve done…”

The statement came with the release of the first clip from the Peacock series “Anatomy of Lies,” which focuses on a colleague who worked with Finch and details how she would take things like so-called “puke breaks” and allegedly change her looks to carry on her cancer lie, the New York Post reported.
Finch — who started as a writer on the medical drama in 2014 — pretended to be sick with cancer for nearly a decade before her big lie was discovered and she was fired in 2022. Finch’s former colleague, writer and producer Andy Reaser, said even to this day he has trouble wrapping his head around the “betrayal” he experienced. “The thing is, it was so confusing. You have to move through eight years of interactions to even wrap your head around it, and I’m not even sure that I still fully have,” Reaser said in the clip.
“She was showing up to work with a shaved head and a, you know, a greenish hue,” he added. “She looked like she lived in a microwave. She was eating these Saltines and drinking ginger ale and going to the bathroom to take puke breaks from her chemo. It’s just so hard to imagine that someone could commit that strongly to that and it seems so much harder to me than just doing your job well.”
The three-part docuseries hit Peacock on October 15.
