Three young children narrowly escaped a family tragedy after fleeing their home where their parents were later found dead, authorities say.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a residence on the 2600 block of Edison Avenue near Ball Way around 9:30 p.m. Friday night.
Deputies arrived, breached the door, and found a woman and man who were both unresponsive. Both were pronounced dead at the scene in an apparent murder-suicide.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were called to the location. The three children associated with the home were found unharmed.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the parents as the investigation remains ongoing.
Neighbors expressed shock while praising the children for their courage in summoning for help despite their trauma.
“It’s unbelievable what those kids went through,” one neighbor told ABC10.
Sheriff’s detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths. There are no outstanding suspects, officials said.
