Midterm election season is kicking off today with a series of consequential primaries in three states, including Texas.

Texas election results should begin to come in around 8 p.m. ET, when the first polls close.

This year’s marquee race in Texas is the senate primary contest, where incumbent Republican John Cornyn is being challenged by Ken Paxton, a Texas state attorney general and staunch ally of President Trump. Early polls suggest that the primary remains close and there’s a chance neither primary candidate could receive the 50% of votes required to become the official candidate, which would lead to a runoff election in May.

Two rising stars in the Texas Democratic party are on the ballot in the Democratic senate primary, which is also hard to predict: James Talarico, a current member of the Texas state House of Representatives, and Representative Jasmine Crockett, who was voted into US House of Representatives in 2023. Crockett has received a number of high-profile endorsements, including former Vice President Kamala Harris.

When do polls close in Texas?

Polls close in most of the state of Texas at 8 p.m. ET, and we’ll begin to see vote counts come in at that time.

The western edge of Texas, including the city of El Paso, is in a different time zone, so polls will close at 9 p.m. ET there.

How to stream Texas primary election results live

While there are no specific times to tune in, you can expect most major news networks to cover primary results beginning when polls close around 8 p.m. ET.

We recommend streaming with Sling TV, which is one of our favorite live TV streaming services because of the variety of channels offered at great price points. The Sling Blue plan, which starts at $45.99/month, includes three major national news networks (CNN, Fox News and MS Now), plus local ABC, NBC and FOX. Add the News Extra package on for access to more networks like CNBC, Newsmax and more.

If you just want to tune into CNN’s primary election coverage, Sling Orange is the plan for you; it offers a one-day streaming pass that gives you 24 hours of access to over 30 channels for $4.99.

If you want to tap into local coverage but aren’t in Texas, you could utilize a VPN like NordVPN, which masks your IP address and changes your location.
