Jennifer Lopez To Speak At Kamala Rally In Vegas

Pop star Jennifer Lopez is speaking at a “When We Vote We Win” rally for Kamala Harris in Las Vegas on Thursday as the countdown to Election Day winds down.

The singer will deliver a speech while the Mexican musical group Maná is scheduled to perform, per The Hill. According to the Harris campaign, Lopez’s speech will focus on “the importance of voting, what’s at stake for the country with this election and why she is endorsing.”

Lopez, who is Puerto Rican, shared a clip on her Instagram Stories on Sunday. The clip included Harris scolding Trump about a joke made by a comedian at his Madison Square Garden rally in New York over the weekend. In the clip, Harris said Trump had “abandoned the island” during his presidency and “tried to block aid” after hurricanes. Lopez shared the post with her 250 million Instagram followers alongside a clapping emoji and the Puerto Rican flag.

The “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” singer has dabbled in the political realm before when she performed at President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021 and also recited part of the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish during the event.

Recent Harris campaign events have included musicians such as Beyoncé, Pink, and Bruce Springsteen. Artists such as Taylor Swift and Lizzo have publicly endorsed the candidate.

Fans were disappointed when Beyoncé only gave a short speech at a Kamala rally in Houston after several outlets hinted she would be performing there.

“I’m here as a mother, a mother who cares about the world our children live in, a world where we have the freedom to control our bodies, a world where we are not divided, our past or present or future,” the singer said at the rally last weekend.

Instead of hearing Beyoncé sing, fans were treated to a concert by 81-year-old country artist Willie Nelson.

The Harris campaign explained their tactic of using high-profile musicians to promote their candidate, writing that they are “trusted voices for millions of Americans, who listen to their music, follow them on social media, or otherwise are inspired by them,” per a statement.

“The Harris-Walz campaign believes that by using their voices to lay out the stakes of this election, it will further encourage and mobilize people to go vote.”
