A machete-wielding maniac was shot and killed in a chaotic confrontation with police at a New Jersey home Monday night — before cops discovered three dead victims inside the residence, according to authorities and reports.

Cops responded to a home on River Road in Piscataway around 5:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about an individual who had a knife, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office told WABC.

When police arrived at the scene, an unidentified man charged at them with a large blade, a law enforcement source told the outlet.

The blade he was carrying was specifically identified as a machete, sources told Fox 5.

Officers deployed their tasers in response to the suspect’s approach, but were unable to stop him, according to WABC.

After the fatal shooting, cops discovered three unidentified people dead inside the home, authorities said.

Two grandparents were among the dead, a source told the outlet. It’s unclear who the remaining victim is or the relationship between the slain suspect and the three victims.

The cause of the three individuals’ deaths is not immediately clear.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment late Monday.

The incident appears isolated, and there is no ongoing danger to the surrounding community, the Piscataway Township Police Department posted on Facebook.

“We are aware of the horrific crime in Middlesex County tonight. All our members that were involved are being evaluated. Thank you to all who have reached [out] to offer support,” New Jersey State PBA President Peter Andreyev said in a statement.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office will investigate the deadly incident.
