More than half of voters described President Trump’s second term in office as “chaotic” and “scary” in a new poll released Friday.
The New York Times/Siena College poll found 66% of registered US voters felt the term “chaotic” described Trump’s second stint in the White House well, while 59% thought “scary” was apt.
Nearly half of Republican voters (47%) agreed that the president’s first three months back in power have been “chaotic,” as did 75% of Independents.
Fewer Republicans and Independents — 36% and 61%, respectively — thought “scary” was the right word.
The survey found that 42% of voters described Trump’s second term as “exciting.”
Trump’s approval rating was underwater on every issue polled by the New York Times and Siena College.
Voters gave the president, 78, his highest marks on how he’s handled immigration, with 47% approving and 51% disapproving.
Trump’s lowest approval ratings came when voters were asked about the way he has addressed Russia’s war against Ukraine and the deportation of alleged MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
Only 35% approve of Trump’s handling of the Ukraine-Russia war, while 31% approve of the case involving Abrego Garcia. The president’s net approval rating was -21 points on both issues.
Less than half of voters were satisfied with the way Trump has managed the federal government (44%); the economy (43%); trade (42%); and foreign conflicts (40%).
Overall, 42% approved of Trump’s job in the Oval Office so far, while 54% disapproved.
The pollster surveyed 913 voters nationwide between April 21-24. The poll’s margin of error was 3.8 percentage points.
