“Trump’s economic agenda betrays our nation: it is not ‘America First’ but ‘Trump First’ — rewarding the favored, punishing the dissenters, and burdening the rest,” Newsom told Politico in a statement.

Newsom, who is largely seen as a top presidential contender, is scheduled to speak at the event on Thursday, one day after Trump takes the stage.

The California governor plans to confront Trump’s view of capitalism as “an assault on the free market,” and label the president as a “crony capitalist,” Newsom’s office told Politico.
