The legend of OG Anunoby grew even larger Thursday when two Big Apple boroughs declared official days to honor the Knicks star whose unbelievable tip-in clinched the team’s miraculous comeback in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
Staten Island officially named Wednesday “OG Anunoby Day” and Manhattan followed on Thursday in a fitting tribute to the unassuming Big Apple stud who put the Knicks one step closer to an NBA championship with his last-second heroics that culminated in a heart-pounding 107-106 win against the San Antonio Spurs.
“Last night proves once again anything is possible, you’re never out of it, especially the Knicks this year,” Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella said in a video posted to social media.
“Here in Staten Island, we celebrated from St. George to Tottenville to everywhere in between. So as a result, June 10, 2026, will forever be known as OG Anunoby Day,” Fossella said, offering an invitation to the hometown team to receive a Staten Island hero’s welcome.
Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal also signed a proclamation for Thursday to be recognized as OG Anunoby Day, praising the quiet assassin for his “exceptional defensive abilities” and “relentless work ethic.”
“In my power as Manhattan Borough President, I have declared today OG Anunoby Appreciation Day in Manhattan,” Holyman-Sigal posted on X.
Anunoby’s efficient shooting, game-turning blocked shot and clutch tip-in put the Knicks up 3-1 over the San Antonio Spurs in the best-of-seven series, and moving them just one win from their first NBA title since 1973.
The Big Apple basked in the Knicks’ surreal win Wednesday night — the largest comeback win in NBA Finals history — as thrilled fans flooded the streets and watch parties erupted in chants.
Fans across the city continued the OG Mania on Thursday, pitching tributes ranging from dedicating a city street in his honor to building a new statue on Liberty Island.
The Knicks will head to San Antonio for Game 5 on Saturday with an opportunity to capture the crown.
