An off-duty cop driving a neon-green BMW with the license plate “SHEEESH’’ was shot in an apparent ambush in Queens on Sunday, law-enforcement sources said.
Two men were taken into custody after the shooting at the intersection of 31st Road and 21st Street in Astoria around 6:30 a.m., where authorities found the 25-year-old officer suffering from a graze wound to his leg, sources told The Post.
Photos showed the off-duty cop’s BMW M4 coupe with a bullet hole in its front windshield.
The injured officer, who was not immediately identified, was taken to a nearby hospital and listed in stable condition.
The two men taken into custody were both wearing black clothing and blue surgical, sources said.
They had been seen near the scene of the shooting and fled afterward in a gray Nissan sedan but were quickly apprehended, sources said.
Michelle Talton, 59, an usher at the Astoria Baptist Church near the shooting, said she was shocked by the violence.
“It’s crazy,” she said. “I think it’s terrible. It’s not safe anymore. This is not a common place for these kinds of things to happen.
“Anyone could have been hurt behind this. You see this every day. Stray bullets killing people,” Talton added.
Local Elizabeth Sanchez, 34, added, “This area is supposed to be a safe place, but I guess not.
“This is really bad. This is crazy,” she said while walking by the crime scene.
The shooting took place outside a ShotSpotter zone, where acoustic sensors are placed to identify and locate gunfire.
