Pelosi Falls Down Stairs In High Heels, Breaks Hip

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was hospitalized in Europe on Friday after the 84-year-old fell down the stairs and broke her hip.

Pelosi “tripped going down marble stairs at the Grand Ducal Palace and took a hard fall,” The New York Times reported.

A source close to the former Speaker of the House Representatives said that she fractured her hip during the fall.

Doctors believe that a standard operation should be sufficient to repair the damage, but they were not sure if that would be done in Europe or the U.S.

The incident happened as Pelosi was traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.

Pelosi “sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” a statement from her office said, adding that she was “currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals.”

The Wall Street Journal reported that Pelosi tripped and fell after posing for a group photo with other lawmakers and officials who were on the trip.

A photo posted by the U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg appeared to show the group photo that Pelosi was posing for before she fell.

She can be seen wearing high heels in the photo as she clutched the hand of House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX).

“She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our service members during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history,” the statement said. “Speaker Emerita Pelosi conveys her thanks and praise to our veterans and gratitude to people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in bringing peace to Europe.”

The statement added that she was “personally and officially honored” to travel with the distinguished delegation, many of whom had family members who fought in WWII.
