Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made a rare public appearance alongside his actress wife Cheryl Hines Wednesday, just one day after wild allegations emerged in court that he told journalist Olivia Nuzzi he wanted to “possess,” “control” and “impregnate” her.
Kennedy, 70, sported his wedding ring and wore a dark suit as he attended the memorial service for his late mother, Ethel Kennedy, at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington.
Last month, New York Magazine put star political scribe Nuzzi, 31, on leave after she confessed to a “personal relationship” with Kennedy. Multiple sources later described the liaison as a tawdry sexting tryst that began after she interviewed him last year for a profile.
Earlier this month, Nuzzi filed for a protective order against her ex-fiance Ryan Lizza, a co-author of Politico’s Playbook feature, and accused him of concocting a blackmail scheme against her as well as hacking her devices to make the relationship with Kennedy public.
Lizza, 50, has steadfastly denied those accusations and fired back Tuesday in a bombshell court filing outlining salacious claims Nuzzi made about her romance with the former presidential hopeful.
Privately, Nuzzi characterized RFK Jr. as a “70-year-old ‘sex addict” who manipulated her due to the “huge power disparity” between the pair, according to Lizza’s court filing. She also allegedly described the relationship as “toxic, unhealthy, stupid, psychotic, crazy, indefensible.”
Lizza, who is currently on a leave of absence from Politico’s marquee newsletter, further alleged in court that he privately urged Nuzzi not to report details RFK Jr. gave her and to come clean to her editor.
Kennedy has been largely mum about the affair, maintaining through a spokesperson that he “only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece” and denying Lizza’s account as “categorically false.”
The Post has extensively reported on RFK Jr.’s proclivities, including details of his personal diary in which he described being a prisoner to “wild impulses” and “powerful demons” regarding sex.
Kennedy has admitted that he “had a very, very rambunctious youth,” but allegations against him have persisted into old age.
Over the summer, a nanny hired in the 1990s by the father-of-six alleged that RFK Jr. sexually assaulted her when she was 23 years old. Kennedy apologized via text message when the woman went public with her claims.
Shortly after the affair with Nuzzi was revealed, Kennedy was seen wearing his wedding ring repeatedly, including during an event supporting former President Donald Trump in Las Vegas last month.
Hines, 59, was seen in late September without her wedding ring when she attended an afterparty for Milan Fashion Week, as Page Six previously reported.
The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star has reportedly been mulling whether or not to divorce the Kennedy scion.
The son of the late attorney general and senator from New York ended his long shot independent bid for the presidency in August and endorsed Trump, reportedly irking Hines.
President Biden, 81, was also in attendance at Ethel Kennedy’s funeral Wednesday alongside former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
Ethel Kennedy died from complications from a stroke on Oct. 10 at the age of 96.
RFK Jr. is one of Ethel’s nine children who survive her.
