Hold on to your hats!

Strong winds are expected to blow through New York City Monday as a cold front moves across the region, bringing with it rain and thunderstorms, according to forecasters.

New Yorkers should brace for showers accompanied by lightning and thunder to pummel the city starting around 2 p.m. after an initial batch of downpours on Sunday night, AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Carl Erickson told The Post.

A “narrow squall line” will then move through the Big Apple, with damaging, high-powered wind gusts and more rain hitting during the Monday evening commute, before moving out further east by 2 a.m., according to Erickson.

“As the actual cold front comes on through, there’ll be an increased chance for some localized damaging wind gusts later on in the evening,” Erickson said Sunday.

“The main threat will be some of those localized damaging wind gusts, but also some of those brief bursts of downpours can lead to some urban flooding, especially in poor drainage areas,” he said.

Empty tractor-trailers and tandem trucks will be banned on MTA bridges starting at 4 p.m. on Monday due to high winds expected to reach 50 miles per hour, according to the city Emergency Management Department.

Temperatures on Monday will still be mild, in the low 60s, but the mercury will struggle to reach the 40s on Tuesday, forecasters said.

“Once we get past 1 or 2 o’clock in the morning tomorrow night, most of the rain and thunderstorms will be off to the east, and then it’ll just be windy throughout the day on Tuesday, but also a lot colder,” Erickson said.

Residents should stay vigilant for any updates on road and transit conditions throughout Monday night as stormy conditions persist, meteorologists warned.
