Trucking employee arrested after CEO found murdered with throat slashed in burning building

An employee has been arrested in the murder of a trucking company CEO who was found with his throat slashed inside a burning building in the Chicago suburbs last week.

Firefighters in Crestwood discovered the body of Dane Koteski, the CEO and president of ATG Truckload, on the second floor of his business as a fire burned on March 5, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The 46-year-old trucking boss died from neck injuries from a sharp object, according to an autopsy.

An employee of Koteski’s, who has not yet been identified, was named as a suspect and later arrested at a truck stop in Holland, Michigan, about 145 miles northeast.

The crime was deemed an isolated incident specifically targeting Koteski, WGN9 reported, without giving the exact motive.

Neighbors of Koteski said he was an active member of a local Serbian church and car club.

He leaves behind a 13-year-old son, according to an online fundraiser.

“This is extremely sad that a neighbor would be killed. This is beyond horror,” Darlene Adams, who lives across the street, told the outlet.

The suspect will be extradited to Illinois this week. WGN

“It seems to me he goes to work early and comes home, takes care of his dogs and sees his son,” Adams added of the murdered CEO.

Police are still investigating as they wait for the suspect to be extradited to Illinois.
