President-elect Donald Trump fired off more taunts at Canada’s government Monday, repeating his wish for America’s northern neighbor to become its 51st state after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation.

“Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State. The United States can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this, and resigned,” Trump, 78, wrote on Truth Social.

“If Canada merged with the U.S. [sic], there would be no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them. Together, what a great Nation it would be!!!”

Trudeau announced his resignation Monday after more than nine years in power, citing dissension in the ruling Liberal Party

“It has become obvious to me, with the internal battles, that I cannot be the one to carry the Liberal standard into the next election,” the 53-year-old said.

Trudeau had faced growing calls to resign in recent weeks, with polls showing the opposition Conservatives heavily favored to win the next general election, which by law must be held some time this year.

Trudeau had a tense relationship with Trump during his first term in the White House, as the two leaders sparred over tariffs on Canadian-made goods.

The president-elect has repeatedly poked fun at Trudeau since winning re-election Nov. 5, reportedly telling the PM during a Mar-a-Lago dinner that Canada would be a good addition to the Union if they didn’t agree to Trump’s hefty 25% tariff proposal.

Trudeau laughed “nervously” at the remark back in November, Fox News reported at the time, with Trump suggesting that he could remain in power as governor.

Trump then went on to post AI-generated pictures of himself standing on a mountain with a Canadian flag before referring to Trudeau as “governor” and Canada as a “state.”

“The Great State of Canada is stunned as the Finance Minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by Governor Justin Trudeau,” Trump wrote on Truth Social after Trudeau’s longtime ally Chrystia Freeland quit last month.

The expansionist rhetoric, Trump insiders previously told The Post, is more of a joke meant to tease his frenemy in Ottawa.

Those insiders have also said that Trump’s stated intentions of acquiring the island of Greenland and the Panama Canal Zone are “100% serious.”
