Former President Donald Trump is projected to win the swing state of Georgia, securing the state’s 16 Electoral College votes, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ.
The race was called for Trump with 88% of the vote in with Trump leading Vice President Kamala Harris 51.2% to 48%. Trump has now secured 242 votes in the Electoral College and only needs 28 more to reach the 270 threshold to be declared the winner.
In 2020, Georgia was one of the states that put President Joe Biden over the edge against Trump in the election as the country grappled with the coronavirus pandemic and had experienced months of far-left riots in cities across the U.S. that caused billions of dollars in damage.
There is no automatic recount that is triggered based on the election results, but candidates may request that a recount be initiated if the final margin is 0.5 percentage points or less of the total number of votes.
Polls leading up to the election showed a tight race between the two candidates, with Trump leading Harris in the RealClearPolitics average by 1.3 points headed into Election Day.

Georgia has seen a decrease in the amount of spending that has gone into political advertisements during the 2024 campaign cycle when compared to the amount of spending from 2020.
In 2020, nearly $800 million was spent in the state for all political races, with Republicans spending $417 million and Democrats spending $367 million.
However, those number have collapsed in 2024 with less than half that total, only $331 million, being spent on ads — which includes ads on TV, radio, cable, digital, and more.
For the 2024 presidential race in the state, Democrats outspent Republicans $171 million to $132 million.
