WASHINGTON — President Trump said Wednesday that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is “not Jewish anymore” — building upon his prior taunts that the Brooklyn Democrat had morphed into a “Palestinian” by his strident criticism of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Schumer is a Palestinian, as far as I’m concerned. He’s become a Palestinian. He used to be Jewish. He’s not Jewish anymore. He’s a Palestinian,” Trump, 78, said in the Oval Office during a bilateral with Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin — part of a far-ranging denunciation of congressional Democrats.
Schumer, 74, staunchly supported Israel after the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attacks that killed about 1,200 people — going so far as to visit the Jewish state and return with lists of weapons that Israeli officials requested, vowing to help provide “everything they need.”
Schumer also condemned anti-Israel protests that erupted immediately after the Oct. 7 rampage and that November gave a Senate floor speech denouncing pro-Hamas “dogwhistles” at rallies protesting Israel’s invasion of the Gaza Strip.
Schumer later became increasingly critical of the Netanyahu government and in March 2024 called for new elections in the Jewish state, saying the conservative leader “continues to pursue dangerous and inflammatory policies that test existing US standards for assistance.”
A Schumer spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
