US won’t let Delcy Rodriguez run Venezuela long-term, Rubio pledges

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed that the Trump administration doesn’t intend to leave Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodriguez in power “in the long term.”

“By no means is our policy to leave in place something permanent that’s as corrupt as you’ve described,” he told senators.

Rubio detailed the Trump administration’s strategy of leveraging sanctions and other tools to make the Caracas regime change its behavior, noting that there “are signs of progress.”

One example he gave is the regime’s slow release of political prisoners, who have since continued speaking out against the Rodriguez government.
