Victim of serial pedophile David Allen Funston reveals how sicko dressed up in ‘fishnets’ and ‘tutu’

A victim of serial pedophile David Allen Funston has bravely recalled the horrifying assault she endured when she was just three-years-old — as she condemned California Gov. Gavin Newsom‘s soft-on-crime parole reforms.

Amelia Markson, now 33, said the sicko lured her into his car with the promise of a Barbie doll.

“I remember him putting me in the house. I remember being in a bathtub,” Markson told the Daily Mail. “I can remember seeing his fireplace and stuff.”

Markson said the disturbing images have never left her, despite being so young at the time.

“Then when he put me on the bed, he was getting dressed up, like in some fishnets and like a little tutu with makeup,” she recalled.

After kidnapping and assaulting her, the prolific pedophile abandoned her in an unfamiliar neighborhood, instructing her to seek help from a stranger.

Funston was convicted in 1999 of kidnapping and molesting eight children in the Sacramento area and sentenced to three consecutive life terms.

Sheriff of Sacramento County Jim Cooper expressed that Funston should be imprisoned for llife.

But despite his heinous crimes that should have kept him locked up for life, Funston was granted parole under California’s Elderly Parole Program last month.

The controversial program was expanded in 2020 through AB 3234 and signed into law by Newsom.

The law allows inmates aged 50 or older who have served at least 20 years of continuous incarceration to be eligible for a parole suitability hearing.

Shockingly, Markson said she was never even notified of the court’s decision.

“He doesn’t deserve freedom,” Markson told the Mail. “It makes me want to cry. I’m still afraid of him. I’m not going to feel safe if he gets out.”

The decision was even more sickening, given Funston’s recent admissions.

In September, he admitted to having sexual fantasies about children while in prison. He also acknowledged a “lapse” between 2020 and 2021, describing fantasies involving an eight-year-old girl who lived across the street from him.

While Funston claims to have developed an “urge control plan” with a mental health counselor, he still admits to being attracted to young girls.

During his 2025 hearing, he also confessed to molesting a boy because the child was vulnerable, citing a “desire for power and control.”

Just hours before he was due for release, Funston was slapped with new charges stemming from an alleged child sexual assault that happened in Roseville in 1996.

Placer County DA Morgan Gire said prosecutors at the time believed Funston was going away for life and chose not to pursue the separate prosecution.

He pleaded not guilty on March 9 to a felony charge of committing lewd or lascivious acts on a child younger than 14 years old; his next court date is set for April 6.

“I don’t know how any rational group of commissioners could think this man should be released,” former Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert, who prosecuted Funston, previously told the California Post.

“What human being, what rational person thinks that that kind of behavior isn’t despicable.”
