One of the sickos accused of plotting to attack New York City synagogues sobbed his way through sentencing Wednesday — after he admitted to helping a neo-Nazi buy an illegal gun in 2022.
Matthew Mahrer, 24, weeped on his mother’s arm inside the courtroom before he was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison by Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Gregory Carro.
Mahrer pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon.
The crybaby, who was busted with his pal Christopher Brown two years ago, said he was “thankful” that no one was hurt in the thwarted attack.
“I could not be more thankful that no one was hurt,” Mahrer told the court, before apologizing to his family and telling the court he “let them down.”
Mahrer, a Jewish man and the grandson of a Holocaust survivor, was busted shortly after Brown was arrested at the Long Island Rail Road platform at Penn Station on Nov. 19, 2022 while carrying weapons with a Nazi armband recovered in his bags, sources said.
At the time of Maher’s arrest, cops seized a loaded handgun with an extended magazine and a bulletproof vest from his Upper West Side apartment.
Brown was sentenced to a decade of prison last year after he pleaded guilty to possessing a weapon as a crime of terrorism.
Mahrer’s attorney, Gilbert Bayonne, made a last ditch attempt to dodge jail time for Mahrer — who he said has autism and was diagnosed with PTSD — but the bid was quickly shot down by the judge.
“Matthew Mahrer coordinated the purchase of an out-of-state illegal firearm and extended magazine using an encrypted messaging app with an individual who intended to use the weapon in a terrorist attack on our city’s Jewish community,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a statement.
“The Manhattan D.A.’s Office holds those accountable who bring ammunition and illegal guns into the heart of Manhattan.”
