Wild video shows a Tesla Cybertruck in flames Wednesday outside a Trump Tower — ironically as Tesla owner Elon Musk saw in the New Year with the hotel’s namesake, President-elect Donald Trump.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed it was “investigating a vehicle fire at the entrance to Trump Towers,” without elaborating on how it started or if it was suspicious.
A video taken by a hotel shows the Tesla electric pickup truck parked just outside engulfed in flames and emitting giant plumes of smoke seen across the Strip.
“The battery blew, I think,” someone can be heard saying as bangs and whistles could be heard on the video quickly seen more than 1.5 million times on Musk’s own social media site, X.
The user captioned the clip: “Cybertruck blew up in front of Trump hotel in Las Vegas. Those are our luggage by the door and that’s where we were when it happened.”
Another video taken from a distance shows a cloud of smoke as someone can be heard saying, “I just heard a boom.”
“It was like a boom-boom-boom, and it almost sounded like a rolling garbage dumpster,” the man can be heard describing it in the video.
People were quick to pick up on the irony of a vehicle made by Musk’s company going up in flames in front of the 64-story luxury building co-owned by Trump.
The SpaceX founder has been tapped to co-lead Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency, and is renting a $2,000-per-night suite at Mar-a-Lago to stay close to him.
“Is someone sending a message?” one user wrote, while another teasingly suggested: “International arson? Sign? Coincidence? Don’t know…”
It was not immediately clear whether any foul play was involved or whether the incident was an accident.
The police didn’t immediately return a request for comment Wednesday.
