The alleged would-be assassin that law enforcement arrested in Florida on Sunday wrote in a self-published book last year that the Islamic Republic of Iran should assassinate former President Donald Trump.
Authorities arrested 58-year-old Ryan Routh — a Democrat donor with a criminal history that barred him from owning firearms — on Sunday after he had hidden on a golf course with an AK-47-style firearm only a few hundred yards away from the former president. Secret Service agents opened fire, Routh fled, and was arrested shortly after on Interstate 95.
In his book, “Ukraine’s Unwinnable War,” Routh expressed solidarity with the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, saying that he wanted “to be protesting in those streets against US sanctions.”

“I would like to celebrate the amazing work of John Kerry that very humbly and humanly handled the Iran deal which elated me and the whole of the world,” he wrote. “I must take part of the blame for the retarded child that we elected for our next president that ended up being brainless, but I am man enough to say that I misjudged and made a terrible mistake and Iran I apologize.”
“You are free to assassinate Trump as well as me for that error in judgment and the dismantling of the deal,” he continued. “No one here in the US seems to have the balls to put natural selection to work or even unnatural selection.”
Authorities have not made any connection at this point between Routh and Iran.
The news comes as national security officials have warned that Iran is trying to sabotage Trump’s campaign, Iran has hacked Trump’s campaign, and Iran has attempted to assassinate Trump.
Trump survived an assassination attempt in July when another would-be assassin opened fire on him while he was on stage at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. A bullet struck Trump’s right ear.
