PHOENIX – Kerry Kennedy is speaking out against her brother’s endorsement of former President Trump now that the ex-independent candidate has suspended his campaign, telling The Post that this election goes beyond the Kennedys, a name that for decades has been synonymous with American political royalty.
“I think this campaign is not about Bobby and it’s not about my family,” Kennedy told The Post in an interview while at a “Republicans for Harris” meet-and-greet in Phoenix on Tuesday.
“It’s about the American people, and it’s about our vision for our country’s future. And do you want a country led by somebody who cares about democracy and protecting our institutions of democracy? Do you want somebody who cares about opportunity for the people in this country all up and down the supply chain of human beings?” she added, saying that Trump’s views are “very dangerous threats to our democracy.”
“There’s one team that’s going to give Americans what they want. And that’s Harris-Walz.”
Following her brother RFK Jr.’s endorsement, Kennedy, who is the president of the nonprofit Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, released a statement condemning the decision, which could swing some voters toward the Republican nominee.
“We believe in Harris and Walz,” the statement co-signed by Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and Courtney, Chris and Rory Kennedy, reads. “Our brother Bobby’s decision to endorse Trump today is a betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold most dear. It is a sad ending to a sad story.”
However, she noted that she and her brother, who will remain on the ballot in some states, still keep in touch despite the political split.
“I was just texting with him yesterday,” she told The Post.
Meanwhile, the Trump campaign continues to tout the endorsement from RFK Jr., who previously sought a primary bid against outgoing President Joe Biden before pursuing a third-party run.
“RFK Jr. is a well-respected thought leader who has realized the Democrat Party has evolved into a Far-Left cabal of open border globalists and Communists who hate our country. It’s a shame the rest of the Kennedy family haven’t woken up yet,” Trump campaign National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.
The Arizona visits from the two Kennedys underscore the state’s battleground status. Both the Trump and Harris campaigns are working at the grassroots level and with their respective big-name boosters to woo moderates and undecideds in the hopes of capturing the Grand Canyon State’s 11 critical electoral votes.
