Patrick Mahomes won’t be publicly endorsing a presidential candidate in this year’s election.
The Chiefs quarterback told reporters Wednesday that while he won’t tell people who to vote for, he will urge them to register to vote in the upcoming November election between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
“I’ve always said, I don’t want my place or my platform to be used to endorse a candidate either way,” he said. “I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote, to inform people to do their own research and then make their best decision for them and their family.”
It comes on the same day Trump joined “Fox and Friends” and said he was a fan of the signal-caller’s wife, Brittany Mahomes.
While speaking about Taylor Swift’s Tuesday night endorsement of Harris, Trump told the morning show that Brittany is a fan of him as he runs for office again.
“I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better, if you want to know the truth. She’s a big Trump fan,” Trump said. “I like Brittany. I think Brittany’s great.
“She’s a big, she’s a big MAGA fan. Much better than Taylor Swift.”
Brittany had appeared to like and then un-like a Trump post on Instagram in August that outlined the GOP’s 2024 platform.
Mahomes was asked about Trump discussing his wife but didn’t say if she was endorsing the 45th president.
“I think you see Brittany does a lot in the community. I do a lot in the community to help bring people up, and give people an opportunity to use their voice,” he told reporters. “In political times people are going to use stuff here and there, but I can’t let that affect how I go about my business every single day of my life, and trying to live it to the best of my ability.”
Shortly after Tuesday night’s heated debate, Swift — the girlfriend of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — gave her unequivocal endorsement of Harris and vice presidential hopeful Tim Walz.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” she wrote in an Instagram caption. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
Kelce has not made an endorsement for the election, but the Daily Mail reported that he will be joining Swift in support of Harris.
